Per-unit and lifecycle tracking
A product story does not end when it leaves the factory, and your passport should not either. You can track products at three levels: the whole model, a specific batch, or every individual unit.
For item-level products, each unit gets its own unique QR code and its own history, recorded over time.
Choose the right level
Pick the level that fits the product:
- Model: one shared QR code for every identical unit.
- Batch: one shared code per production run.
- Item: a unique code per unit, for batteries or for per-item repair and resale tracking.
A living history
Each unit can record its journey: manufactured, shipped, sold, serviced, refurbished, and finally recycled. When someone scans that unit, they see its real history rather than a generic spec sheet. Trusted repair, logistics, and recycling partners can be given a narrow permission to add updates without ever changing your core data.
Useful long after the sale
Item-level records make warranties, repairs, resale, and recycling simpler, and they prove exactly where a product has been. That is the foundation of the circular economy the ESPR is built to encourage.
Frequently asked questions
What is item-level tracking?
It gives every individual unit its own unique QR code and history, rather than sharing one code across a whole model or batch.
Can repair or recycling partners add updates?
Yes. You can issue a narrow permission that lets a partner append lifecycle events such as repaired or recycled, without letting them change your core passport data.
Which products need item-level tracking?
Batteries require it, and it is valuable for any product where warranty, repair, resale, or per-unit traceability matters.
